I was excited for the DLC, and honestly counting the hours to buy the Malakai Expansion. But I am literally not buying it anymore because the Age of Reckoning mechanic is RUINING the Dwarfs. I cannot believe CA has moved forward with such an INSANELY negative mechanic to be the main rework the Dwarfs are getting. We have waited for almost 1 decade for the Race to be properly reworked and they are making it EVEN WORSE then it was before, by turning Dwarfs into a more agression prone Race then Khorne or Greenskins with ridiculous rewards and a compeltely broken Grudge reward system. The goal for the Age of Reckoning mechanic is INSANELY broken, and ridiculous. I cannot believe CA has fucked up this bad on a DLC that seems to be entirely amazing in general.

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD CA, take this thing back and give us a mechanic the dwarfs deserve, or at least FIX THIS ONE. I can't believe I have waited for 8 years for the Race to become WORSE then it was. Just change the UI for the wood elf World Root system, or the Lizardmen Silent Sanctum for Karaks (province capital), and ship that instead. Just please don't leave this thing in the game as it is, cause I can't believe I will have to STOP PLAYING THE GAME because of an update literally breaking the only race I enjoy playing.

I will have to wait. But based on my past experience, Dwarf AI was always one of the if not the most aggressive AI in my campaign and it's immersion breaking. I wish Skarbrand had the same aggressiveness.

Lol, bit of an overreaction.

Solution seems pretty easy for CA to fix, Just make it so the total % of grudges calculated can only be from...

  1. Factions the dwarfs are at war with.
  2. Factions that are touching your provinces borders.
  3. Factions that are touching your military/defensive allies provinces borders.

The Confed could use some data base tweaking, but the last thing I want them to do is nerf it in to they ground so you can easily get the final level of the age of reckoning every time and confed every faction by the mid game.

Gurdges being reworked in such a way will just give permanent AoR bonuses, free armies, free units, massive growth and PO.

The system is fine. This is an overeaction.

CA can tweak some numbers to make it easier for the players to get the max result, but that will trivialise the mechanic.

Also CA should increase the number of grudges Chaos and Tomb Kings give as well!

Personally I think the Age of Reckoning concerns are overreactions. There will be a tweak of the numbers according to Mercy. It is a mechanic you are not forced to take part in and your punishment for failing the mechanic is... -3 PO (which is pretty much irrelevant in WH3), -25 Growth (after an update where Dwarfs get their growth buffed and a bunch of units moved down a tier) and +100% upkeep for Grudge Settlers (which does not bother you if you don't use them). This is not taking into account the fact that Battlesey put out a video loudly screaming about its problems only to gleefully make a stream about how broken and easy to abuse the mechanic is a day later.

At this point I am more convinced that people just don't like look at red text and the idea of negative modifiers than actually wanting to fix this mechanic. And the mechanic will be adjusted in time to cater to these players, so there should be no concern at all that this is the final iteration. What I do wish for is more ways to resolve grudges, like through diplomacy, or to make it be targeted like a Waagh in the direction of an occupied Karak or something.

It absolutely makes sense for only Thorgrim to have it, yes. Ungrim should probably have something revolving around the Slayer Shrine, he is the Slayer King after all. CA should continue their process of touching up the two basegame lords per faction to make them stand out more.

Yes, I think that is the issue all dwarves will play the same with AoC if it is kept to the High King as crusading type mechanic it is both loreful and give him flavour. Ungrim needs something specially now that slayer cults are pointless.

On the other hand other dwarves should either have the old grudge bar reworked with the new grudge units this way they can control their grudges more easily (no more raid that faction or take the settlement of your ally).

Personally the mechanic won't ruin my game, since I will simply wait until someone modded it out properly.
But that doesn't change the core problem.

Dwarf players waited for 8 years to get this complete joke of a mechanic.
People who don't care about the Dwarves getting a rework in the first place might of course argue that you can just ignore the mechanic. But what kind of argument is that even supposed to be? Imagine the Vampire Counts finally getting one large rework in one of the next DLCs and it turns out so bad, that the best advice people can give to Vampire player ends up being "just ignore it, not a big deal".

To those people who didn't really play Dwarves that much anyway and don't see what the problem is, its not about the rewards, the punishments, the balance or anything like this. Its about the fact that Dwarves waited for 8 years to get a proper rework and now all they get is a 10 turn race towards fighting as many battles as you can. How many people are playing the Realms of Chaos campaign again? I mean sure its an annoying race to gather souls, but you can just ignore the mechanic or not?
The answer why hardly anyone thinks this is fun in the long term is the same answer that applies to the question why Dwarf players think the AoR isn't any fun in the long term either.

As I said, for me personally it doesn't hurt quite as much as others.
I modded the souls race out of the Realms of Chaos before the Immortal Empires launched.
I will mod the AoR race out of the Dwarf campaign until CA fixed it.
But the realization that the largest rework the Dwarves might ever get is THIS disappointing is still just sad.

You don't have to play the mechanic when we have seen hours of footage. I highly doubt they fully changed this mechanic in the last week while influencers were testing the game. Dwarfs shouldn't have a Khorne/Greenskin mechanic. The very thought is grudgeworthy!

I like a lot of the changes in 5.0. Even many of the dwarf changes. However, the Age of Reckoning is a disaster for the dwarfs. Worst part is this mechanic is for every legendary lord you play. It is literally forcing ALL of the dwarf factions to play against their lore.

It's not an aggressive mechanic. It's a reactive mechanic. You are settling scores. It's not like you are sacking stuff at random. Which you will have to do in order to meet victory conditions in most cases.

Seems like you haven’t actually looked at gameplay footage then, because it is indeed an aggressive mechanic that rewards you for being aggressive.

I like the mechanic thematically, but I fully expect the current iteration to create ever-increasing thresholds for grudges that you're inevitably unable to fulfill because the system wasn't playtested enough.
I would suggest perhaps extending the meter while also making legendary grudges raise the bottom so you never fall below a certain threshold again while holding those grudge objectives like the Oak of Ages or the Silver Pinnacle for instance. That way you still have play room, but it also creates a solveable end-state for the mechanic, which in my opinion makes sense for what it is. Eventually, all great wrongs to the Dawi will have been righted, so you should be able to enjoy those bonuses in the long-term once that end-game state is reached.

Also, confederation with minor Dwarf factions should not increase the cost to confederate legendary lords. If anything, it should lower it. Looking at Thorek's and Belegar's dilemmas here.

Just please don't leave this thing in the game as it is, cause I can't believe I will have to STOP PLAYING THE GAME because of an update literally breaking the only race I enjoy playing.

Problems with Age of Reckoning

It's not an aggressive mechanic. It's a reactive mechanic. You are settling scores. It's not like you are sacking stuff at random. Which you will have to do in order to meet victory conditions in most cases.

It is not reactive because you`ll always seek the biggest grudge and you start off with a timer.
