Does the cheese skin stay on when serving baked brie? ›

In this baked brie recipe, I do not remove the rind because I need the surface to spread my jam and to add my beautiful nuts and toppings. The rind keeps the wheel of cheese together, and once you take it out of the oven and slice into it, all the gooey deliciousness oozes out like a nice surprise!

Why did my baked brie leak? ›

You do not want to take the rind off Brie before baking it. The Brie's rind is edible and will be a bit softer after baking. If you cut off the rind, the cheese could leak through the puff pastry during baking.

What goes with brie not fruit? ›

Some suggestions: An herby cracker with rosemary, garlic and thyme. Add some olive oil and truffles and you have a savory, earthy snack to tie you over between meals. A dessert option would be pairing Brie with gingerbread cookies, especially Triple Crème Brie.

Do you cut the top off brie before baking? ›

No, you don't have to remove the rind before baking brie. The rind is edible and I don't even think you can taste it after the brie is baked. If you want to remove the rind, you can use a sharp knife to carefully cut off the thin rind of the cheese at the top of the wheel. This is easier to do when the brie is cold.

Can you eat unopened expired brie? ›

Yes you certainly can. Brie is a robust cheese which has no problem aging a few months. I personally ignore use by dates on all cheese products. The older the better and dont worry about a small bit of mold either, just cut it off with the rind.

Why do I taste ammonia when I eat brie cheese? ›

It may be a turnoff but it's a consequence of aging, especially for bloomy-rind cheeses like Brie. As these cheeses ripen, their surface molds break down protein into amino acids and one byproduct of that breakdown is ammonia. When a Brie is aging at the creamery on a rack, the ammonia is evacuated through ventilation.

What are the symptoms of eating bad brie cheese? ›

In most people, listeriosis has no symptoms or only causes mild symptoms for a few days, such as:

What is the etiquette for brie cheese? ›

Brie etiquette

Never cut the tip or corners off of the Brie; this act of “pointing the Brie” is a huge faux pas and will never go over well. It is a general rule that you should always cut a block of cheese as to not misshapen it; that being said, it is advisable to cut Brie, as if cutting pieces of a cake, in slices.

Should brie be served warm or cold? ›

Serve Brie either at room temperature or warmed (never chilled), to bring out its creamy texture.
