Saint of the Month

Saint Boniface was born during the seventh century in England and was baptized Winfrid. He became a Benedictine monk and, feeling called to preach the Gospel in foreign lands, approached Pope Gregory II who renamed him Boniface (meaning doer of good deeds)and sent him to Germany to preach the Gospel. St. Boniface spent almost 35 years travelling Germany, sharing the good news and building schools, convents and monasteries. He subsequently became known as the Apostle of Germany. On one occasion, he felled a giant oak that honoured the god Thor and used the wood to build a chapel in honour of St. Peter. He was also made Bishop and reformed clergy. He then evangelized in Holland where he was martyred in 754 along with other members of his new flock who were preparing for confirmation. He is the patron of file cutters
and tailors. The crown of thorns represents the suffering that Christ endured during his crucifixion and the flames represent the love he has for humanity. Devotion to the Sacred heart of Jesus is both well-known and widely practiced for divine love is at the heart of our life of Christian discipleship.

Prayer of the Month

We give you thanks, O Lord our God, for your faithful love and constant presence in our lives. Continue to open our eyes to the wonders of your glory and goodness that we may fully entrust you with our lives. Help us to listen to your voice and guide us as we strive to remain faithful to your call and to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. May we always be faithful disciples of Christ who uphold the dignity of all people and give expression to your compassion, mercy and love in the world. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
